About TandPay — Escrow for Social Commerce in Rwanda
TandPay (short for TrustAndPay) is Rwanda's escrow platform built for social commerce. We solve the trust problem when people buy and sell on WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook in Rwanda.
When a buyer pays via MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) or Airtel Money, the funds are collected and held by our licensed Payment Service Provider (Pawapay) — the money does not go to TandPay and does not go to the seller yet. Instead, the seller receives a unique 4-digit delivery code. When the package is delivered, the rider gives the code to the buyer. The buyer enters it on TandPay from their own phone to confirm receipt. If no issue is reported during the 1-hour inspection window, the seller is paid via mobile money, minus a 2.5% service fee. The buyer pays a small protection fee at checkout, disclosed transparently on every payment link.
This protects buyers from online shopping scams in Rwanda and gives sellers guaranteed payment with proof of delivery. Buyers have up to 1 hour to report an issue if the item is wrong or suspicious. They can file a dispute and get a full refund. If the seller never delivers, the money is automatically returned after 48 hours, or the buyer can contact support so support can verify with the seller and refund immediately.
TandPay works everywhere in Rwanda — Kigali, Huye, Musanze, Rubavu, Gisenyi, and every district where MTN MoMo or Airtel Money is available. No app download needed. Sellers create payment links and share them on any social media platform. Buyers click, pay, and track their order in the browser.
Our technology partners include Pawapay for MTN MoMo and Airtel Money payments and payouts, Pindo for SMS delivery and OTP verification, and Meta for WhatsApp Business API support. Sellers share payment links across WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok Live, and Facebook. TandPay is a registered Rwandan company (tandpay LTD, TIN: 155683751) based in Nyarugenge, Kigali.
